Mariam’s Care Update June 2023
This June 2023 update follows Mariam’s medical care and mobility needs in Kamuli, Uganda, as her family worked with doctors on the next stage of recovery and movement support.
Mariam’s June 2023 care update shows the steady work that sits between diagnosis, treatment, and daily life. Her care required medical review, mobility planning, and support for her family as the next decisions became clear.
June 2023 care update
Nangobi Mariam is a child from Kamuli who has been part of St. Jude Africa Children’s Foundation’s care work since her early treatment for Spina Bifida-related complications. Her care has required hospital support, follow-up visits, mobility planning, and steady encouragement for her family.
After earlier treatment and surgery, Mariam still needed support for movement and recovery. Her medical team advised that stronger crutches and prosthetic support would help her prepare for the next stage of care and protect her ability to move as safely as possible.
For readers new to Mariam’s story, the journey begins with Mariam’s first care story and continues through her August 2023 mobility update, her April 2024 follow-up, and her later wheelchair support story.
Stronger mobility support helped Mariam move with more stability during recovery.
Medical guidance included future prosthetic needs so care could keep adapting with dignity.
Transport, communication, and daily support helped her caregiver stay connected to medical care.
What support was needed
Mariam’s care needs were practical and immediate. Donor support helped the foundation respond with mobility and family assistance that kept treatment from becoming isolated or delayed.
This update shows why care often happens in stages. One visit can identify a need, another can help respond, and continued follow-up keeps the child and caregiver connected.
Help Mariam and other children receive steady care.
