ST. JUDE AFRICA CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION
Supporting children with disabilities and their families
A day together at our Bugembe office, sharing essential supplies, listening to caregivers, and looking ahead to new ways to support families.

A day to come together
On 17 July 2026, we welcomed children living with disabilities and their families to our office in Katende East, Stadium Zone, Bugembe, Jinja City, Uganda.
Parents and caregivers gathered with our team to share their experiences, receive essential supplies, and encourage one another. We spent time listening to the challenges they face and talking about the support they need at home.
We wanted every family to feel welcome and valued. The gathering gave us time to connect with the children and the people who care for them each day.

Practical help for everyday needs
During the gathering, we shared food supplies, blankets, soap and other household essentials. These items offered practical help for families managing daily needs alongside the demands of caring for a child with a disability.
For a parent or caregiver, support with food and household supplies can ease some of the pressure at home. It also gives us a chance to stay in touch and understand where further help may be needed.

Listening to parents and caregivers
Some children need regular medication, medical attention and continuing care. Their parents and caregivers often manage these needs while also finding food, paying household costs and supporting other family members.
Some parents carry much of this responsibility alone, with little support around them. We offered encouragement, listened to their concerns and talked about the importance of continuing care for their children.
The conversations reminded us how much steady support matters. Families need people who listen, understand their circumstances and work with them over time.

Looking ahead to skills and livelihoods
We are planning practical skills training for parents and children, including sewing, crafts and other hands-on activities. The aim is to help participants learn useful skills, build confidence and explore ways to earn an income.
We also plan to introduce livelihood activities that help families develop small income-generating projects. These are next steps we hope to develop with the support of partners, donors and well-wishers.
Our goal is to support families today while helping them build more secure futures. Learn more about our work with children and families.
