Mariam’s Care Update August 2023
This August 2023 update follows Mariam’s care journey after treatment, surgery, and the need for stronger mobility support so she could move more safely and return to school.
Mariam’s care has required steady follow-up, medical attention, and practical support for daily life. In August 2023, the immediate need was mobility support that could help her move with more stability after treatment.
August 2023 care update
Earlier in the year, Mariam went through significant treatment and surgery. After discharge, the crutches she had been using could no longer support her safely.
St. Jude Africa reached out to supporters, and the response helped provide new crutches for Mariam. That support gave her more confidence with movement and helped her return to school, which remains an important part of her recovery, growth, and childhood.
This update connects to Mariam’s first care story, the April 2024 care update, and her later wheelchair support story.
New crutches helped Mariam move with more stability after treatment and discharge.
Safer movement made it easier for Mariam to return to class and reconnect with learning.
Continued care helped her mother manage appointments, recovery, and daily needs at home.
Why donor support mattered
The August 2023 support focused on a practical need that affected Mariam’s safety, movement, and school participation.
Mariam’s journey is still moving forward. Medical follow-up, mobility support, school supplies, food support, and caregiver assistance work together so care does not stop after one appointment.
