Assessment of the Condition
Amon was the first child we received in our care back in 2019 when we first opened our doors to special children. Amon had a mysterious condition that was causing swelling in his left arm and the inflammation had basically eaten up his fingers.
We assessed his situation and determined that he needed urgent specialized care. We mobilized resources and worked with his mother to transport him to Mulago. He was successfully admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital the kid to Mulago hospital, where he continued to receive treatment and care for one month.
Care
Our team conducted regular visits during his stay at Mulago and at the time of his discharge, Amon’s left hand had reduced to normal. He was once again a healthy, happy young boy, ready to go outside and play with all the freedom of having no pain and swelling in his arm.
Post Care
At his discharge, we procured some food items and bedding, and also gave the Mom some money to help them with their everyday needs at their home in Bugiri District. We promised to check on them at 3-month intervals, unfortunately, we have not been able to see or talk to Amon again. The mother is unreachable on the phone and we learned from our physical visit that the entire family had changed address.
We are however grateful that we were a sounding board for Amon to regain his freedom from the condition that was eating up his arm.
