Introduction

Ryan was born with Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles.

Ryan had never received a proper diagnosis and treatment for his disability, mostly because his family did not have the resources or information on where to go for help. But even in these unfortunate circumstances, his mom has been very loving and supportive, willing to do anything for his lovely son.

At St. Jude

At the initial evaluation, we found out that Ryan’s mom is a single parent with four kids and has no means to earn a living. This means that Ryan will have to be enrolled in our long-term care and rehabilitation program. His urgent need right now is a CP chair as prescribed by the doctor.

What Next?

Ryan has now received clinical rehabilitation, fortified meals to help with his malnutrition, bedding, and personal care items. Our next plan is to figure out how he can continue receiving treatment and care. He urgently needs a CP chair.
